Arky,
I can't help much but I'll tell you what little I know.   I went to Bentonville Thanksgiving and coyote hunted one morning.  We didn't see anything.  We used a Primos predator call and drove out a couple of wood lots.  The yotes must have been in someone else's back yard.  The area has become too populated to hunt but my family has one of the last large farms in the area. We usually take a couple when we specificly go coyote hunting.   I deer hunt in Fulton County also and shoot (or at) a coyote occasionally while deer hunting.   My buddy usally takes over 30 gray fox a year with a predator call in Craighead Co but only one or two coyotes.  If I was bounty hunting for coyotes for a living I would starve to death.  30 years ago we had a lot of fun running them with hounds but thats now impossible with so many highways and houses.  Most deer hunting is outlawed with dogs too so its not worth keeping a pack of hounds.
I still hear them howl and see their tracks but don't have a sure fire way to bag one.
Good Luck
james

Arky65, i don't coyote hunt very often but there seems to be quite a few in  my area. I hear them howling alot around here , i live about 4 miles from the border  of Felsenthal  refuge. That is the first place that comes to my mind, most of the land around here is leaesd  you would have to join a club perhaps. I too have tried to call them in with a mouth blown call  but never can seem to draw any of them in. Idid  hit a Bobcat late Saturday evening crossing my deer lane, found some blood  but he ran off so i don't think i hit him very good , very little blood and no hair. Hope this helps.

I'm from Stone County (Mountain View) and there are plenty of coyotes around here.  I like a .22 Hornet for them -- with a 35 grain V Max and a case full of Li'l Gun, I get about 3000 fps.

We'll have to get together and do some calling.

I live in Bentonville and am just gettin back into preditor hunting.  We've got a lease just south of huntsville that has a lot of coyotes on it and a few bobcat have been seen as well.

I'm going to work up some varmit loads for my 6.5x55 swede and give it a go.  Really looking forward to getting back into it.

hey, guys thanks for the response, i work offshore and have been out a while. i need info on types of calls and techniques that work. i will proabaly hunt alone due to my work schedule . it is hard to plan anything , i am suppose to work 14 days on and 7 off  rotate on wednsedays but that does not always happen. i have a small place on the caddo river 30 miles 70 of hot springs, i  have alot of national forest available. any hints on how to hunt the cut overs, what has worked for you and what has not worked for you will be helpful. plan to hunt with any of several rifles and tc contenders. calibres range from .223 to .270. with a few wildcats for the contender. i used to deer hunt but burnt out. i have been punching paper for last few years, and want to get into hunting again in a different direction than deer.

thanks again and keep the comments coming

The best advice is to find an area where you can position a call and decoy upwind of you, with some visibility all around -- not necessarily clear-cut, or pasture, but where you can observe a predator make it's approach.  If possible, position yourself higher than the decoy and call.

At least, that's how I do it -- and I've been fairly successful.

Arky65, :D  :D  :D
Small world isn't it? I live in Hot Springs. I just bought a NEF Sporster 17 HMR. I have a old wooden crow call, and a wooden predator call that need to come out of retirement. I am a business owner with flexible hours. I would enjoy hunting in the ONF. I have been wanting to find a good place to do some squirrel hunting in there any way. We can learn together.
It sounds as if we have quite a few varmint hunters close to us. I would like to see how they do it also.
