stainless steel versus Blued
« on: January 13, 2005, 03:54:44 AM »
I'm looking to purchase an Encore frame and need to choose between stainless steel and blued.  For those of you who have had both Stainless steel and blued barrels which do you think shoots more accurately and which gives you a better selection of barrels?

Thanks

I have frames of both blue and stainless and mix and match blue and stainless barrels on each.  Find no difference in accuracy or performance.

If you are planning on shooting a muzzleloading with black powder then stainless may be slightly better for cleanup ease.  Other than that it strictly a matter of appearance.

I have to agree with Thomas Krupinski. It all comes down to what you prefer. I have both 2 SS frames and 2 blue frames for my Encores. They both shoot equally and clean up, I do not notice any difference. Some times I like the look of one over the other.  :D

Just so you understand it makes no difference the color of the barrels or frame they all fit one to the other. I have SS and blue barrels and frames. I mix and match depending on what frame happens to be free of a barrel and what barrel I want to use. I have never experienced any difference in accuracy in a barrel that I could say was because of the use of one color frame over another. Buy what you like and as far as calibers, if you can’t readily find it in one color there is someone out there who will make it up for you in the color you like even full camouflage.

I have all stainlees frames and barrels with composite stocks.  The stainless is more weather resistant and the composite stocks are lighter and seem to absorb some of the recoil.

that makes no sense in regaurds to the composite stock absorbing the recoil its plastic and plastic dont give. the heavier the gun the less the recoil. your gonna have less recoil with wood over composit every time plus the wood balances out allot better. unless you of course have a brake in regaurds recoil. the only advantage of composite is weight (lighter)and more weather resistant.

I disagree.  With the size of the wood on modern guns including Encores and Contenders there is no give.  There is with composit materials.  They are lighter but tend to pass less felt recoil to the shooter.  If ballance is an issue composit buttstocks can be weighted.  And they are far more resistant to damage and poi change in the wet than wood.
