Get a copy of Ken Waters' Pet Loads. In 1972, he started loading what he calls the .375 Express, but the rest of the world calls it the .375 JDJ. Waters' original rifle was a Mauser converted to .375 Express. It was originally a .375-303, so the conversion was relatively simple in his bolt gun.
He has updated load data in Pet Loads, from 1997, and it's in a 26" barrel. I haven't bothered to compare with the JDJ from a handgun, but Waters got nearly 2200 fps with a 270 grain Speer SBT. His Express round was slightly shorter, in both case lenght and overall length, so you might squeeze out a bit more from a JDJ. Judging from the limited load info he listed, he was loading to the same pressure as the JDJ.
Waters claimed to be very satisfied with the field performance of the round.
