Well my old service rifle match load was 48 grains of 4064 with a 165 grain bullet and a CCI200 primer, but that question is so open.   It is such a versatile cartridge with both pistol and rifle applications.

Right now I am making up my first 15" Encore loads with 125 grain Sierra SP and 52 grains of AA2230C, RP case and CCI 200 primers.  Haven't tested them yet, but will see what happens later in the week.

Pretty much anyones brass and primer with 57 grains IMR 4350 under a 165 grain Nosler Partition

Rem brass, CCI 200, 54-55 gr  IMR 4350, 180 gr Nosler Part or Speer spire or Horn spire.  Some guns might take 56 gr but I stay at 54-55.

165gr bullets (any but BTs) with 47gr of H4350 or 46.5gr IMR 4350.
Note: the loads listed should be 57 and 56.5 gr of powder. :D

Dave in WV, I've never been able to type numbers, and I was wondering if that is what happened to you?  46.5 & 47 grains of either 4350 seems awfully light, if these numbers are correct, what kind of performance are you getting with this load?

ButlerFord:  I think 47 grains of 4350 under a 180 grain is an old accuracy load for the Garand.  I think.  I also recall a similar charge grouping moa in a Model 70 I have.  If I can remember, 'cause I suffer from CRS, I will try and get the specs on that old load and see if I am correct.  As I recall, it left the barrel at somewhere around 2650'/sec or so.  Mikey.

I know that the most used powder for the 30-06 is 4350 but I would like to see some of the successful loads using double base powders like H-414 or H-380. I am looking for easy to measure, consistant loads with 165 grain bullets. I have looked at the manuals - I have a lot of them - I know that each rifle is an entity unto itself - But lets see some "MODERN" powder being used. :roll:

Aw, Dave, no duh's involved, besides you may have saved my bacon!!!  My Lyman and Nosler loading manuals and IMR reloading phamplet say 53-57 for this combo, But! The sister-plinking load of 57 and a 165 gameking (which shoots in the same hole as the nosler) is a full grain over charged according to my new sierra reloading manual!!  Am I gonna change it???   Probably not, it's been well tested in my rifle.  But it does reenforce the idea of multiple manuals, dropping the charge and working up again when changing something in a load and take everything you hear with a small grain of salt.

I felt bad about the wrong numbers because while you caught it, what if someone did try it and had a detonation?  :shock:   We have a resonsibility to be correct when we post any data. Any data I use that is max I will not give to a stranger. Someone I know that's resonsible is another story. BTW, I've always enjoyed your posts. Thanks for your time as a moderator. Dave

My favorite load for my 30-06 for my Encore 15 inch pistol is, Winchester cases, Winchester primers, 50.0 gr. of IMR4064 topped off with a 150 gr. Nosler ballistic tip. Works great for me.  :D

I like heavier bullets in the .30/06 than most guys.  One of my favorites is Hornady 190 grain spire point boat tails with either IMR 4350 or IMR 4831 powder.  Another favorite is the 200 grain Nosler, either the Partition or the Accubond, with IMR 4831.  If I'm just practicing at the range, I like any of the 150, 165, or 180 grain bullets with IMR 4895.

Right now it's:

165gr Nosler BT(switching to a different bullet when these run out)
55.2gr. of IMR 4350
Win LR primers
R-P cases

Shoots sub MOA out of a Remington M760 pump

Also shoots:
165gr Remington PSPCL
54.5gr. IMR 4350
Fed. BR primers
R-P cases

Both loads have produced groups less than one inch at 100 yards (3 shots).  The BT load actually shot a one holer but I figure that was accidental :grin: .  I probably couldn't do it on a bet.  Most are right at .75-to just under 1.0".  Plenty good enough for me.  Recoil isn't bad and I've never had a problem killing deer with less than max loads.   Easy on the gun and shooter.

In my pre-64' Win model 70 .30-06 my favorite load is 58 grs. H4350, Fed 210M, 165 gr. Nosler BT and Lapua brass. Shoots nice little groups in this 46 year old gun. IMR 4350 works very well too.

anybody load down for this round? I am thinking about working up (or down) a load at about 2700fps for a 150g bullet or about 2500fps for a 180g. Either is more than enough for deer. I also load the 180g at about 2750 but that's more than enough for elk and it hurts me from time to time. I don't need that much power for TN whitetails.

My favorite would be 50.5 grains of Varget, Winchester case with  Federal210M  primer and a 168 grain SMK. :grin:
