Has anyone changed the barrel on a m70?  Is it worth it, or is it cheaper to just get another gun?  It shoots 6 inch groups off the bench with a 3x9 leo scope, at 100 yds.  Very frustrating.  It has a 22 inch sporter barrel, and I was thinking of changing it a nice target barrel.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like something is wrong with that M70. It should be able to shoot an inch or better. It may have a scope problem, scope mounts, a problem with the stock bedding or warpage, a bad crown. I'd take it to a competent gunsmith before I gave up on it. It could also be the ammo but I don't think ammo would result in 6" groups.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

I agree with Val. I think I would take it to a good gunsmith and let him check it out. Maybe lap the barrel and crown it. I would do that before I bought a new barrel-Good luck--vernonp
