I am wanting to start shooting rimfire silhouette. Anyone know of shoots in AR? Having trouble picking a gun. Kimber, Anschutz, or CZ? I have access to an old Savage/Anschutz sporter with monte carlo stock. I think the model # is 141. I may try it first. I did order a Vari x III 6.5x20 EFR today. Does anyboby use Kimber classics? Not the HS model, just the classic or custom classic.

Hi, Tony: There are two very active clubs shooting silhouette in Arkansas: Benton Gun Club near Bryant and Old Fort Gun Club near Fort Smith. Both have websites. Feel free to PM me for more specific information.
You should shoot what you have, talk to other shooters and try their rifles before you buy something. The most important thing is to get to that first match and dip a toe into the water. The next match at Benton is Sunday afternoon, Feb. 13, 1:00 pm.

Hey Tony,

Welcome to the most fun you can have with your clothes on. I'm the asst. silhouette director at the Old Fort Gun Club near Fort Smith and echo ajj's sentiments. Shoot what you have, hang aroung the board ask questions and by all means, get out there and shoot. Our fist shoot of the year will be the 2nd Saturday in March, sight in at 9, match at 10. We've got a few Kimbers in our group, but the only guy shooting a classic sold it and bought the HS, don't really know why. The Benton Club has a great bunch of helpful folks and are a joy to shoot with. I'd like to thing OFGC is just as friendly. I positively know you will be welcome at either.

Thanks, I will try to make it to both ranges sometime this year. I am in Jonesboro, so Benton will probably be first. I do have a real good friend that lives in Barling so I could stay with him when I come up. What about Finnfires? I have done some searching and found people think their top notch. What I can't determine is only the sporter legal for Hunter class, or would the varmint also be legal?

I tried to find our new match calender but I can't!!! Errr. Basically we are shooting on the 2nd Sunday in Feb at 1:00PM as ajj mentioned. We shoot the 3rd Sunday of each month after that, same time. Ft. Smith shoots on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays each month so for 3 weekends there are matches here in AR. Also from Mid April to Sept. we shoot every Wednesday night at 6:30PM, alt standard rifle and hunting rifle each week.

As far as guns go you are more than welcome to come shoot my anschutz 1712 or 54.18msr. Both have the mcmillian stocks. We have plenty of shooters shooting the wood stocked 1712's and the mcmillian stocked 1710's. I have 2 friends that shoot with us that have CZ silhouette models and you would be welcome to try one of those out. The guys at Ft. Smith have some kimbers, anschutz, CZ's as well, and they are a great bunch of folks as well. I try and shoot there as many times a year as possible, and will be traveling there mutiple times this year.

Tony,

the sako hunter rifles shoot and balance well. when plugging on the lilja barrel for weight, balance, and accuracy, they are down right scary accurate. if they would EVER get their trigger right it would be one of the best out there. at the moment i think most folks that have one find the finnfire trigger inconsistent and, with that, challenging. i finally gave up on mine went in another direction.
