I hope Remington decides to run something nice for the 100th Anniversary of the .30-06 next year.

I had a new "ought six" on my short list last year until I realized next year was the centennial for this great round. I bought some new guns anyway, but postponed the .30-06. I'm cheap too, but if I run out of game I'll eat hotdogs 4 or 5 days a week if I have to, to get 100 year aniversary rifle. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see which company comes up with the best one.

I don't like hotdogs, so I guess I would make Pretzel Soup 4 times a week.

As for which Company makes the nicest one, I hope it's a real effort instead of sticking some phoney bronze medallion in the stock some where. I'd like to see just a little glitz on the receiver and "100th Anniversary" on the barrel.

Ah shucks!!! Go for the gusto. Get a Weatherby Mark V in 30-06. Even though its not a Weatherby caliber, the 06 shoots superb out of this rifle!

Fishy, of course you're right. I just hope Remington gets it turned around.
I haven't been too impressed since I bought an original Mountain rifle,
maybe 1988. Now you can bet the ranch come November 06', I will be in my favorite spot, with my Weatherby o6' (220's). Maybe the mountain rifle will get a workout later that season. Wouldn't it be great if Remington came out with the original blue Mountain as a commerative, with Spainish Claro Walnut stock, slight engraving to note the year. Weatherby type recoil pad, and a nice leupold Vari X III. Maybe I'm a rediculous dreamer
(for under a grand)... But Remington needs to do something for the consumer, after recent faux pas!

. If you wanna kno how good the Mountain Rifles are (newer) ask GB. I think he owns a Mountain LSS if I'm correct. Danged rich people.

Nope. He owns THREE of them. :eek: I bought one of the original Mtn. Rifles in .270 Win. Wanted the .280 Rem. but the guy had none and was going out of business so I had a choice of .30-06 or .270. Price was too good to pass up so I took the .270 Win. as it is basically identical to the .280 anyway.

Since then I've bought a pair of the limited run ADL SS synthetic stocked Mtn. Rifles also. One at .300 Win. Mag. which I promptly traded for a .270 Win. and then ended up giving it to my oldest son since he kept it borrowed all the time anyway.

Then when the LSS Mtn. Rifles came out I figured Remington had finally made what I'd been wanting since I bought that first one so long ago. I have them in .30-06, 7-08 and .260 Rem. I'd love one in .280 Rem. but they don't make it. And really it would do nothing my 7-08 won't anyway. I've never seen one in .270 Win. yet. Chances are good that if I ever do it too will come home with me.

I also have the new CDL in .35 Whelen. It really is nothing more than the old original Mtn. Rifle with a longer and very slightly thicker barrel. The recoil pad is the new one but all other features are pretty much identical to include the stock.

Gotcha fishy, and I ain't rich either. I got my Weatherby from an employer
as a gift. My original Mountain remains the most accurate out of the box rifle I've owned. Should use it more, but boss / friend gave me the Mark V
and I inherited a classic Savage 99f .300 sav. That for the obvious is my
go to deer rifle.
I'd say I'm pretty much satisfied with Remington. Plant's just down the road.. My only issue, and it may be just me, is the model 7. Each time I pick one up, I ask the same question. Who the hell designed this. I'm probably being unfair, with personal preference.

Fish...I'm not to sure your wally world has the same sale but mine is having a sell on the model 700. There is a synthetic stalk .270 and a .243 for about 350$ (dad was tellin me about it so I don't know the exact price) And to think I will not have my money till early fall :cry:
