Run one into a 300 whisper die and see what you get - a cute little rimmed short necked whisper. You'd need a custom reamer though. If you shorten a whisper die set by the difference between a .221 case and a 357 mag case you could just run a normal whisper reamer in short and go  back and single point the rim recess. Either ought to work nicely!

Check out www.sskindustries.com - they're the parents of the thing. It's also called the 30/221 since all it is is a 221 fireball necked up to 30 cal, normally chambered in a 1:8 twist barrel with a long throat. The main point is to shoot a Sierra 240 grain Matchking at subsonic speeds through a supressor and function in an M-16. It also works well with bullets in the 125-130 grain range at 30-30 speeds (2200 fps or so) for hunting. It's an amazingly efficient round, getting a lot of power from very little powder. If you do some Google searching for it, you'll undoubtedly find all sorts of interesting reading. BTW, by using the 357 Max or 360 DW case you can make a full size rimmed whisper that works really well in single shots!

The .300 Wisper is the .221 Fire ball case necked up to .308 cal. It was designed for a sniper rifle to be used at sub sonic velosities with a silencer.
If all you want is a 150 yrd. tree rat gun get your self a .22 Hornet. You can get a NEF or an H&R ready to go. If you don`t reload get a .17 HMR. If you just have to have a wildcat the .17 AH with a 19 gr. bullet will shot point of aim to about 290 yrds. But dies will cost you $95 to $110.

i have a TC custom shop barrel in 32/20 (.308 bore) that produces the velocities you are looking for when loaded up to full potential.. a few years back Rick jamison did an article on the 32/20 and got 2300 fps with 110 grain bullets... would this be a suitable alternative? might be a good alternative to having a custom reamer built, etc...
