Presently using a VXIII 6.5-20 on a 30 cal. custom for long range but it runs out of vertical adjustment before you get to 700yds. This scope does not have the long range adjustments or even mildot. Want something that will get out to 1000 but for little money. This shooting is just for personal satisfaction and not competition. Thinking about trying the 4200 6-24x40 mildot. What do ya think? Will it get me successfully to 1000 yards on the cheap?

Dunno but if you want to get there really on the cheap why not try Burris Signature Rings with offset inserts? Even if you're using it up closer I'm sure you could adjust the amount of offset and using the scope's adjustments to get you there and still be able to shoot a 100 also.

Well GB believe it or or not, I picked up the rings and offsets last evening. We'll see how they work out but I'm going to call Jon and pick up the 4200 also because of the mildot I don't presently have in the III.

I guess what I would really like to know is if the Bushnell has a broader range of adjustment than the standard Leupold I now have.

Generally speaking no. Leupold scopes have about the widest range of adjustment of any brand. But you can check the specs on both scopes on their respective websites. Both companies post those kinda specs on their sites.

You might need to buy a scope with a 30mm tube.

The Leupold 6.5-20 has a max. adjustment of 44, where the Bushnell 6-24 is 26.
