Gents,

I am very close to buying a new M77 International in 30-06 and wanted to see if any of ya' all have ever had one of these and what you think of it.  I think it is gorgeous - love those full length stocks!  My only concern is that short little 18 inch barrel.  Maybe I shouldn't be concerned as I shoot a lot of 45-70 out of an 18 inch tube and have no trouble - although an '06 is a mite faster than a 45-70  What do ya think?

I have one in .308 and I love it. I will say it is not the most accurate gun I have but I love the way it looks and handles.

That must be the one you want. That rifle does look nice! I always took a liking to a full stocked rifle as well, but never forked out the bones to buy one.

CZ also offers a similiar rifle chambered for the 30-06, but with a 20.5" barrel, and a smaller price tag.

This is it:

I have a #1 with the international style stock.  It has a 20" barrel and shoots very well.  Then again, I am a hunter and do not shoot targets.   This thing is a joy to carry and looks exceptional IMO.

Good luck with your new gun.

the diference in the length of the barrel is only going to amount to 50-100 fps diference in velocity ,wich can easily be compensated for with an adjustment to the actual load used.i have a m77 int. in 308 and a #1 int. in 30/06 love them both.the 308 is a short action very light and nice to tote around.your 30/06 will be a long action ,a little diference in length and overal weight but minimal.
the cz that was posted is also a very nice firearm except,if a ruger fits you comfortably you prob will not care for the cz.they are designed to be shot with open sights not a scope.notice on the posted pic how much of a drop there is from the top line of the barrel to the top of the stock.the ruger has about half that drop.i had a chance to buy a used one and passed it up for this reason.
the only common complaint about these rifles is of course rugers trigger,or sometimes a stock will change shape due to climatic conditons or poor storage practices affecting accuracy.
i have not worked up a real accurate load for my 308 i get like 2-2 1/2" groups at 100 yds,but my 30/06 will shoot sub 3/4" at the same distance.
i have several other rugers with full length wood, they don't make any much nicer.for the same money that is.good luck with your purchase.shawn
