If you are loading your own, of course it will vary. My ft-pounds of 45-70 hunting load is up over 40. The plinker with pistol powders is down around 7. I load one load in the 200gr. 356 and with a lighter gun like the 94, it does kick, but the muzzle rising is the most notable thing. To me, it is not even in the same class as the hot 45-70 loads. I have not ever shot any factory in my 45-70, but the loads are fairly mild, and the recoil should be fairly similar. Both would be somewhere around that 30;06 in recoil.
