Where did you get the idea that the new Vaquero  in 45 colt couldn't handle these loads?? As I understand it the only vaquero frame ruger made smaller this year is the 357 and that is the size of the original 357 flattop. Technically there is no "new Vaquero" in the larger calibers. I'm not aware that the 44's and 45's were EVER made in the smaller frames outside of  a few custom conversion 5 shots. When the 44 came into being ruger enlarged it's frame size and incorporated the 357 to the larger frame so as not to have 3 frame sizes to manufacture.  The 357 (NEW)vaqueros coming out are a special edition and likely will only be produced a year or two. Although I envision many may be bought for the purpose of conversion to custom 5 shots in the larger calibers.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I have to bite my tongue. I missed that first time I read through the magazine. In Rugers defense... It IS what shooters asked for and was built to cater to the cowboy action crowd.

Every reloading manual has a section specifically for Ruger handguns. If the new Vaquero won't stand up to those loads, then I think Rugers got themselves a bit of a problem. If the CAS shooters want a smaller framed, and weaker gun, there are plenty to choose from - leave the Vaquero alone. In my opinion, not one of Rugers better moves.

I have to agree that it probably not the greatest idea for safety reasons. I'm suprised the lawyers didn't shut the project down. However as I understand it the vaquero wasn't expected to achieve anywhere near the popularity it achieved and the CAS is mostly responsible for that popularity. Given that fact, it makes good business sense to accomodate this group. Should they (Ruger) loose that business to European clones???
It comes down to compromise. I'm sure many of the naysayers would love to have this smaller frame gun able to carry high pressure loads. I'm sure Ruger didn't WANT to make this a weaker gun but it is a case of physics. In this case you can't "have your cake and eat it too". If a high pressure gun is what you want you'll just have to stick to the larger frame.
