Another Mueller question (3-10 Extreme-duplex)
« on: January 20, 2005, 04:45:01 AM »
Are the specs accurate? Weight, eye relief?
I always check these two and about 50% of the time the mfg specs are not quite right. I called Mueller and are good folks but the gentlemen I spoke to wasn't positive and hadn't personally check these numbers. He stated that he believed this particular scope was comparable to the Elite 3200, Leupold VXI or older Vari-XII and slightly better than the Nikon ProStaff.

DHB,
After getting off the phone with you I put the Extreme 3-10x44 scope on a postal scale I have sitting here which showed a weight of 15oz a difference of 1oz (as advertisied) and being that the scale is heavally used I would have to say the advertised weight is probably more accurate.

I also checked a half dozen catalogs I have here from other major brand names and found our scopes to be as light and in some cases lighter than many 44mm scopes in the 3-9 and 3.5-10 range.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the feedback. Have you ever check the eye relief using the method described by John Barsness in his book "Optics for the hunter" very accurate and easy. Shine a flashlight into the objective end with a ruler under the ocular end with zero aligned with the bell then take a piece of paper and have the light shine on it. Move the paper fore and aft until you see a sharply focus image of the flashlight bulb and note how far from the ocular lens this happens and Wahla "eye relief" Do this at the max and min powers and you will have the info. Very enlightening.
As soon as I liquidate a couple items I will purchase one from one of your vendors.
