Why no bolt action .22 from Winchester?
« on: January 17, 2005, 03:50:52 PM »
Am I missing something here? Why doesn't Winchester offer a bolt-action .22 rimfire or LR? I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it was blued/wood or stainless/synthetic. I don't much care for the lever action .22s they offer.

Hmm...that's a good thought. But never thought it before  . Maybe they never thought to produce one with the popularity of the lever action. Maybe someone can send em a letter... :D

They made a re-issue of the Mod. 52 for a couple of years.  I have one, but they were a bit pricey for what you got.

I suppose the bean counters at USRAC decided that there wasn't enough profit in them!

I have my dad's model 72 22.  It still shoots 1" at 50 yards.  I caried it as a kid when I first started hunting.   -    No price on memories.

They won't have any 22 rimfires after this year as they are discontinuing the 9422. It is only available in limited numbers of tribute and custom models this year so if you want one you had better be quick.

The only rimfire that they will market will be the 1885 in 17HMR and 17Mach 11

I have 2 model 67A's .22 cal bolt action. Both are identical with chrome bolt and trigger guard. I think they are youth models, but I don't know much about them.
If any one else has any info on these, let me know.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! Most of these postings are >2 years old.

As it happens, the new "Winchester" is now importing a line of bolt-action .22's from Russia. They're made by TOZ and are being sold as the Winchester Wildcat.

They currently list a standard version and a HB varmint model on their web site.

So both Remington and Winchester are importing rifles made in other countries and adding their names to the label.  I'm waiting to see a Spanish pistol being sold by Ruger

My dad has a very high quality Winchester .22 bolt action he bought in the early 1970's.  I think it was the model 320.  Anyway, was and still is a very nice .22 repeater.

I also would be interested in buying a new Winchester .22 bolt action if the company were to offer it.  However, I have no interest in buying a foreign made rifle that is simply stamped, "Winchester."

Since the US Repeating Arms plant closed last year I don't know of any plant in the US making Winchester.

That's sad!  I see plenty of nice used bolt action Winchester .22s at the gun shows.

The Winchester "Wildcat" is supposed to be a variant of the Russian TOZ-78 (TOZ-78-12, I believe) bolt action.

I think I'd rather have a CZ452.  The Wildcat isn't very attractive.
