Zach,
Smokey is right, but what would be even better is if you had someone that has been loading for afew years to help you hands on. When your reloading rifle ammo you can be working with presures up to 60,000 psi in some rounds. I think that the .223 has a SAMMI of 55,000 and the .303 of 45,000 psi., but that is from the memory of an old guy. The point is that these are max safe presures and it is very easy to push these presures to over 100,000 psi and then every thing comes unglued and people get hurt bad or killed. Reloading is fun and a good way to save money and shoot more, but you should always put safity first. I`ve been loading my own since 1965 and play with some rounds that there is no loading data for, but untill you know what to watch for in presure signs and understand what you are doing DO NOT go over book max. loads and you really can not do them safley in some of the older rifles. The more you read about internal and external ballistics the more you`ll be able to get out of your reloading.
I would ask around the loacal gun shops for help from someone that been reloading for advice. You`ll find the old guy more than willing to help you get started in a safe way.

While a mentor is ideal, many of us don't have that luxury.  What I have done is read every book I could put my hands on.  I have also read this forum religiously.  There is an outfit called   the National Reloading Manufacturers Association. Their website is reallly pretty good.  Once you have read some good books you will need to consider the equipment you want.  There are kits for that.  I went cheap, but most around here will tell you that while any kit will work, the more expensive kits are easier to use.

Look upon reloading as following a published recipe.  Follow the same reloading steps religiously and slowly. Do not become distracted. Do not exceed the maximum recommended loads and don't drop below the minumum recommended loads.  Use the tested components.

One final thought.  I would strongly recommend that you involve a parent in this hobby.  Reloading involves dangerous components that might scare the bejeabers out of a mother who discovers them while cleaning your room.  I know, that happened to my mother many years ago when she discovered my brother's closet laboratory.  Reloading should be done in a safe place and components should be stored safely.

The lee aniversary kit is a good low cost way to get started. I would start with the .223, sierra 53g bullet and hodgdon Varget powder. Once you figuer out why I say start with this powder and bullet and have a few hundred rounds under your belt you will be well on your way to a lifetime of safe reloading.

Zack, if you can get a gimme Lee Loader for one of the calibers you shoot, that's the place to start. It is slow, but it makes good ammo and gives you a thorough understanding of just what you are doing. Follow the instruction sheet and stay with the dipper and the suggested loads and you won't have any trouble. Only weak point is the priming method. You'll probably set off a couple of primers getting the hang of it, but you oughta be wearing safety glasses anyway and a glove on the hand over the die will prevent even a minor burn.

Since money is tight for you, keep an eye out for used stuff.

our library carries books on reloading. Might try yours first and see which one you like first if only buying one
