'Coon huntin'
« on: November 27, 2012, 06:52:43 AM »
Any 'coon hunters here?
I live in Floyd, VA, up in the mountains and enjoy 'coon huntin' with a coupla' buddies. I was just wonderin' if anybody here is a 'coon hunter.
I write about our hunts from time to time. If anyone is interested, HERE is a link to one of my stories.

I was a coon hunter until 1969, and I miss it.  you can have more excitement in one night, than a whole season of deer hunting.
me and my hunting buddie would hunt coons all night, and at daylight the dogs would tree squirrels.
we didn't kill many coons, but when we did, they were delicious.

We don't stay out late. We turn the dogs out right after black dark and I'm usually home by 11 PM.

I'm a member of the Floyd County 'Coon Hunters Association and we hunt in teams. The team I hunt with has about a 70% kill rate, meaning about 70% of the time we go, we tree and make a kill. About one out of every five or six hunts, we'll get two in one hunt.
