Adding sling swivel studs to a mod 94?
« on: January 03, 2005, 11:01:29 AM »
Anyone know a good source for the sling swivel stub mount that grips the magazine tube (and source for the swivel stud for the the stock)? Opinons on the mag tube sling mount method for mod 94s or better sling ideas for older mod 94s?

One of my mod 94 has some blueing wear on the mag tube that looks like it once had one of these sling mounts, and it also has a hole in the stock where it looks like someone once had a sling stud. I'm assuming it's not going to mess with the gun much to put a sling back on there, but let me know if you all think I shouldn't do that with a pre-64.

STW, I just bought a pre 64 win 30-30 with swivel slings and not sure if I will keep em, Front swivel is mounted in barrel band and rear in stock. It is in transit so I haven't had it in my hands yet. If interested let me know, as I will just disgard them. Where in Utah you located , maybe we could do some switching. I'm in St. George area. Mine should be 1950-51 production.

Williams makes a set that will fit a Model 94 or a 336.  A sling comes in  really handy when you have your hands full dragging game out of the thick stuff.  If your gun has already had sling bases mounted, then putting on another set is not going to make a bit of difference.

STW:  Uncle Mikes sells sling swivel kits for the 94.  They come with a magazine band (3/4 band) and a sling swivel stud for the read stock.  Fairly inexpensive and they work well.  3 of my 94s wear those and it makes them very handy to carry.  HTH.  Mikey.

None of my '94's wears a sling, I like it that way.
I just wanted to ask about the strength of the rivet on the forearm band sling swivel. one of my guns used to have one on the forearm band, but it's been broken off, doesn't look like it was very strong.

JOhn - none of the Uncle Mike's mag tube bands I have installed have given me any problems.  I use the slings both for carry and shooting support (contrary to the teachings of Col. Klink (ooops, Cooper).  When I use them for shooting support I use a hard hold, and they haven't failed me yet.

The Uncle Mike's mag tube bands are two piece 3/4 bands.  They are held in place by a set screw.  Works well for me.  HTH.  Mikey.

Sounds like the mag band I saw on a used m94 recently. Do you have to dissassemble the barrel band and mag to install it?

STW - no disassembly required.  Just loosen the set screw, place the band where you want it and tighten the screw back up.  I think the factory mag tube bands are one piece and for those you need to partially disassemble the end of the mag tube but, if your barrel is not cut for a full band where you want it placed on the mag tube it won't fit.  That's where the 3/4 band comes in nicely - no modifications or disassembly required.

I'm seeing a lot more of these on levers these days.  HTH.  Mikey.
