Mauser type claw extractor on all Classic M70's???
« on: January 22, 2005, 05:12:44 AM »
Do all M70 Classics have the claw extractor including WSM and WSSM.  I looked  at one of the Shadow's in the gun display case and the extractor did not look like the others I have seen in standard calibers.  I did not have time to ask to see it closely but am going back to the gun shop later this week. Also if you can help me out here, what long action calibers share the same bolt face as the 7mm Rem Mag and/or 264 Win Mag?
Thanks, KL

Catchone,  Yes, I believe that is why they call it "Classic".

As far as the boltface is concerned, any belted magnum other than the new "short/fat" WSM's and SAUM, and of course the really big stuff such as the .378 Weatherby, et al..., have the same size boltface as the two cartridges you cite.

Thanks for the response.  I was pretty certain I was on the right track.  I am going to have two rifles built while I am away for about 18-24 months.  I want a pair of either 260 Rem and  264 Win Mag or a 7-08 and a 7 Rem Mag.  I want both on the Classic M70 action.  The time I'll be gone should be plenty for my gunsmith to get them done.  When I get home I'll have about a year left and then I'll be moving to Colorado upon retirement.  We are looking at Salida maybe.  Kind of crazy at my age I guess but I have an almost nine year old son who pretty much does everything fishing or hunting related with me.  He got his first whitetail this year.  We'll get to turkey hunt this spring before I go.  I'll miss him most of all while I'm away.
Thanks again, KL
