« on: September 08, 2005, 07:10:02 AM »
does anyone have any experience patching for a hex-bore ?
i just found myself the owner of a parker-hale. i have the nose-pour mould
and a box of 580gr bullets from dixie. i've read about using an "X" patch
over a wad but don't remember where.
any time savers would be appreciated.

Give Tim Ragland a call. He's a Whitworth shooter, and may be able to help you out. I've heard of people using wool felt wads under the bullet. You can use both the hexagonal bullets, and a paper patched conical out of the Whitworth too.

Have a look at the Long Range Muzzle Loader web site. There's some information there on paper patching for the muzzle loading match rifle. there is also an associated email discussion list which has many Whitworth shooters. Go to: http://www.lrml.org
