sidekick accuracy tricks

I haven't shot my sidekick much yet, but I was wondering is anyone uses any accuracy tricks on their huntsman/sidekicks, like the ones for the centerfire rifles.  You know, bedding the scope, o-ring on the forearm screw, trigger jobs, etc.

jritter, I like to use Pyrodex pellets and I have found two 50 grain pellets give me excellent  accuracy but I have friends that use Triple 7 with good results. Start with about 80 grains of powder and work up. Make sure you clean your barrel, I shoot three shots and clean the barrel. I also remove the breech plug after five shots grease and clean it and only finger tight when putting it back in. The 240 grain XTP bullet with mag sabot from T/C gives excellent accuracy in my gun and the Shock Wave 250 grain bullets is showing some promise. I hope this helps.. The fun is trying out several combinations and finding one that works.

Hey JR,

     I use the O ring on the forearm screw and seems to work.  I use Pink Teflon tape and Mil-Tec grease for the breech plug.  Big thing with plug is DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.  Hand tight and then back off 1/4 turn.  I don't touch plug during shooting but, loosen before leaving range while still warm.  ENJOY :lol: .

Where do use the O ring on the forearm screw?

Are you using a rubber O ring?

I glassed a forearm on a Ruger #3 years ago and it made a fairly substantial accuracy improvenent.  My sidekick shoots really good, but i am always after a tighter group and would like to try your O ring modification.

English, check the NEF centerfire rifle forum.  This is a common trick, the o-ring goes between the wood and the barrel, around the stud, to float the barrel (I think).  I haven't tried it yet on any of my rifles, and I most people recommend remounting the metal shoe of the forearm that rides on the action as well so you don't get a bind on the barrel from the forearm.
