Ruger M77 25.06

I have a older Ruger M77 in 25.06.  Could I just buy a Ruger M77 7MM barrel from Ruger for the gun?  Will anything thing else be needed to convert it from 25.06 to 7MM?  Your input....

7MM what? Makes a BIG difference ya know.

To go to the 7MM Remington Express aka .280 Remington a rebarrel should do it. Same for the 7-08. But for any 7 Mag you'd have to get the bolt face opened and if the round is significantly fatter or has a belt you might have some feeding problems that need to be addressed.

As to whether Ruger can and will sell you a barrel with identical contours to fit into your stock I dunno. Asking Ruger would be the best plan. If your idea is to go to a belted magnum like the 7MM Remington you'd come out cheaper to just trade for one.

Glenn,

Just in question, how did your Ruger perform in 25-06?  I am in the process of buying a new 25-06 and the Ruger is one of the rifles that I am considering.  I'd appreciate your comments.  Thanks!

Dave

I have an old tang safety 77V in 25-06 and it shoots a .36 group at 100 yds. w/ sierra 100gr  sbt. Couldn't be happier with it. Course I am a Ruger man, old tang safeties and all. Got a cabinet full of em.

Dave,

Listen to what 'tomfoolery' has to say.  I too own a Ruger M77V in .25-06 that shoots just as well as his(under MOA).  I also own two other .25-06's(as you can see I'm a "Quarter Bore" fan) and they all shoot under MOA and kill deer(even large Mule Deer) like they were struck by lighting.  Easy to load, not finicky at all.  The best all around cartridge for varmints and deer going today.  Lawdog

Don't stop and think about just go do it. My Ruger in 25-06 is the single most accurate rifle I won. I have shot prairie dogs, Mule deer, Whitetail deer and Antelope.

I use 100 grain Speer SPBT 56 grains or IMR 4831 I have yet to recover a bullet.
