I have never fired a No. 1 in .416 Rigby but I do own a Ruger M77 Magnum in .416 Rigby.  I chose the Rigby over the Remington due to it's versatility.  You can load the Rigby down to low Remington velocities or up to near velocity of the mighty Weatherby round.  Standard loads for the Rigby, which are about the same as the Remington, velocity wise the Rigby does it at about 45,000 psi. pressure while the Remington is nearer to 60,000 psi.  Lastly the .416 Rigby has a history and reputation the .416 Remington can only dream about ever having.  Long live the Rigby.   :toast:   Lawdog

I also have a 416 Rigby, but it is in the Encore. I tamed it by installing a mercury recoil suppressor and installed a Simms pad. I have to agree with Lawdog on the reason for the 416 Rigby selection.  :D

Possum: Have you shot your Rigby yet? How did you like it? What loads did you use? I miss my old No. 1 in this caliber. Recoil, while stiff, was not punishing with 400s, and it was very pleasant with the RCBS cast slug.
