.22lr ball or HP?

Someone posed a question on another forum but it was never answered.  The individual asked what is the best ammo for a .22 caliber snub nose revolver.  He asked is it 32grain hyper-velocity HP or the heavier 40 grain ball hyper velocity?  His thought was the heavier bullet would do more in a self defense situation and being that the .22 is underpowered the ball would be best for penetration opposed to HP which could hit a rib and maybe open prematurely.  What are you thoughts on this? HP or ball? lighter 32 grain or heavier 40 grain?

Doesn't matter what kind you use, ANY 22rd will open when it hits bone.  I doubt he will notice any difference with either round.  If a 22 is all I got, shoot till your empty ....

In my opinion, a 22 is better than a sharp stick, but I would get something bigger for personal defense.

for self defese I would probably spring for a box of CCI MiniMag or Viper. They are both fine in revolvers. I hear the viper brass is too long to work well in some autos. I shot a stack of telephone books with LRN solids, SubSonic hollowpoints, and MiniMags. THe LRNs poked mabey a .30 hole through mabey 2" of phone book, and then on into the ground. The subsonic made a .30 or so hole not so deep, and the MiniMag ripped a big star shaped hole about the size of  quarter in the phonebook and passed through also. This was shot from a 2" barrel from 3 feet away, shooting straight down.

I would definantly go for the premium stuff, MiniMag or Viper.
