Dumb Question: What is or what does the RC stand for/mean?

I did a search on the term RC here yesterday, but did not find an answer.  Seems to be specific to older models, but???????

Not a dumb question, everybody who has one has asked it!

Best I could come up with is: REGULAR CARBINE  which refers to barrel length and magazine tube capacity.

Your right. And any one that has an older RCis very fond of it.
I have a 336/35 RC , straight stockwith ballard rifling. Never part with it
