What .30cal round and barrel length?
« on: January 28, 2005, 06:38:28 AM »
Guys,

I bought a Douglas blank in 30Cal and I'm having OTT work it for my Encore action.  I had to have another barrel! and I'm trying to decide on barrel length and round to chamber it for. I plan on using it for deer and larger game to moose size animals.  It is a 30” blank with 12” twist.

I currently hunt in VA and would have to travel to TX/CO/MN or another state to hunt larger game and expect the max distances would be around 300-350 yards.  Also, I am just beginning to reload and I have the flexibility to load-up or down the round.

I currently have the following barrels: 223. 270, 7-08, and 308.  Love my 270/7-08/308 barrels and don’t want another mid range barrel.

Thanks.

Maybe a 300 Win Mag in 26", or a wildcat?

I agree, a 300 Mag,  in any form  300 H&H, 300 Win, 300WSM, or 300 Weatherby.  I'd make the barrel 25" just to be different and on an Encore frame a 25" barrel would pack like a 22-23" bolt gun.
