Back from the rifle range with the Huntsman!
« on: January 30, 2005, 11:24:47 AM »
I just got back from the rifle range. I can't believe, I braved the cold and the bitter cold wind. The Huntsman had been sitting in the gun safe for about three months it is still gave me some impressive groups. I decided on trying the 250 grain Shock-Wave bullet from T/C, with two 50 grain pyrodex pellets. The Shock-Wave bullets grouped at under an inch at 50 yards. I will do better when it warms up and I'm not shaking so bad. But after reading all the good comments on the Huntsman muzzle loader on this form, I just had to blow off some rounds. :gun4:

Congratulations Jerry, I spent the afternoon shoveling snow off construction materials around the house hoping the carpenters might get here tomorrow( ). I even felt so enthused because the sun was out I shoveled a path to the "Bouse House" for them!!!! (portable worksite toilet). I would have rather have been shooting but I'll bet the drifts over the woods road to my clubs outdoor range are 8-10 feet high!!!....<><....

MSP Ret, I shouldn't complain after hearing about your weather. The snow here has remained in the mountains. So, I feel fortunate to get out and shoot even though it was cold. I can't wait till spring and working some good loads for the Huntsman. :D

Jerry,

Good shoot'in

What brand primer did you use?

Did you purchase the new Shockwave loading jag?
If so what is the thread size?  My guess is 10/32 :(

stew, I use a Winchester 209 primer and I use a heavy duty range rod with shock-wave jag. I don't know what the threads are on the Huntsman rod. But I will carry a short starter with the shock wave jag when hunting to get the second shot down if I need a  second shot. I had no problems with getting the Shock-Waves down the barrel. I cleaned the barrel every third shot.  :D
