Maybe I should have stopped and bought some lottery tickets on the way home from Bimart, but I was too excited to get home with my new .280 Rem Handi!!!! :-D :-D :-D Got a call from one of the gun clerks this am that they got a new gun in, the .280 I was looking for, so I went down and bought it, $204 w/tx.....non-laminated wood stock, has the ultra scope rail on it which surprised me, just checked the trigger, 4 pulls on the lyman digital scale showed 3lbs 15oz quite consistently, has an ejector which I expected. I'm a happy camper..... :wink:

Also checked the price of a Buffalo Classic whilest I was there, $325+tx....she's checking availability for me, might just get one of those too, all this talk about em has got me thinkin more and more about em, something about that longer barrel that is so inviting.... :grin:

I hope your new 280 shoots as well as mine does. I have not worked up a load for it for accuracy but the first two loads that I tried worked well. It will shoot 1 1/4 with 120 grain Sierra pro hunters and also with 140 grain Nosler Ballistic tips. I have a 3x9x40 Swift scope on it. I had trouble finding one and inquired on the old site. Someone had a seen a used one at Scheels in Great Falls. I called them and put it on lawaywy. After I finished paying for it they sent it to our local sheels and I picked it up there. So far, in the hunting field, two shots, two mule deer. both about 200 yards and both went down in their tracks. It may shoot better If I worked up some more loads to try. But hey it does well now. I hope the new 7mm-08 shoots well. The new one has a great trigger. The 280 when I got it was about eight lbs. I worked it down to just under four. Good luck.

Thanks fellas, I think I will only shoot factory ammo in it for now, anyone got any recommendations? I picked up a box of 165gr rem express CL cuz they had it on sale, but if the .280 is like the other handis, it will probably like the lighter bullets best.

I just ordered a BC, the dealer goes thru Zanders. I checked Zanders before calling them and they had them in stock. The sportsouth outfit that Walmart uses doesnt have any in stock according to their websight. I decided to spend the extra 35 bucks and get it now from my local dealer - hopefully with less hastle than using walmart.

BiMart orders direct from H&R so it shouldn't be a problem as long as H&R as em. :wink:

Congrats, I think you'll love a .280. Just my opinion, but I think it's the best deer cartridge ever conceived.

To be honest I've never tried it with factory ammo, which is unusual because I usually do buy one box to compare handloads to. In handloads I've tried the 140 TSX and 150 XFB Barnes bullets, 145 Grand Slam Speers, and 160 Accu-bond Noslers. Mine shoots the best with the 150 gr. XFB from Barnes over 54.0gr. of IMR 4831. I'm still playing with different powder loads for the 140gr. TSX bullets. The .280 also likes H4350 powder.

Jeff, this is a bad time of year for gettin to the range, they are only open on the weekends and real busy then, they have scheduled matches a couple times a month and it really cuts the use of the range down plus it's crowded, so consequently I don't go much until they open back up again on Wed and Fri starting early in the spring. I've got a .17hmr, 22mag, .30-30, the .270(thanks to you!) the .280, that haven't been shot yet, and the .45-120 to be reamed, and some load work to do with the .45-70 and nosler partitions! Worst thing is that when the range opens back up 4 days a week, spring salmon and turkey season starts!!!!.........Winter blows...... even for a retiree!!!!
