need a 358 sta..HELP!
« on: January 23, 2005, 04:34:53 PM »
I have posted this question elsewhere, and have hit more than a few roadblocks...I am searching out a 358sta barrel for my encore.  I am planning on having one made, but wouldn't rule out purchaseing one already made.  TC custom does not have it on their list of calibers, and either does bulberry...vigin valley did, but they are closing up shop.  I have emailed van horn with no report back from them, and on company out of wyoming did say they could do the blank, but not the finish fitting ect... I am open to any and all suggestions.

I'd keep trying Van Horn, you'll usually get him eventually, I've never had one of his barrels but have heard good things, I'm sure he could rent a reamer and do it for you if he doesn't have one.  I think most gunsmiths could rechamber a 35Whalen for you if your willing to go that route. The one local smith who has done some boltaction work for me rents all his reamers so I'm sure most any would be willing for a rechamber.

Good luck, I'm a Contender shooter and havn't gotten into the Encore yet, some day but now have other interests. I've long thought about a model 70 in 358 STA.

Let us know how it works out for you and how you like the STA when you giterdun.
