To Winiford RHODES and cousins all.

A little added info - Barnet and Martin Nobles both served the Confederacy during the Civil War.  Martin is listed on the rolls, but the only listing I found for Barnet was in a small book at the Coffee Co., TN, clerk's office.  Barnet's occupation on the 1860 Bedford Co., TN, census is listed as "overseer of negroes".  Bill's line comes through Barnet.  Barnet died in Dec 1876 in Coffee Co., TN.

Deb,

Thank you for sharing the letter. I enjoy reading about others family history.

Do you know if Bill is related to the Nobles that came to Anniston, Alabama?

Faye,
I'm not sure if any of Bill's line of Nobles are related to the Anniston Nobles...
Richard H. Nobles, b. abt. 1800, shows a wife, Alice, b. abt. 1818, on the 1850 Bedford Co., TN, census.  Everyone in the family shows as being born in NC.  I found a posting (don't have the URL handy right now...) that says Alice's maiden name was Post and that her father was a preacher and the family moved to AL.  I have not been able to verify this.  There was another Richard H. Nobles in the Lenoir Co., NC, area, so it's proving difficult to figure out where Bill's Richard H. was pre 1850.
From the letter posted online (above), and with help of other researchers, I can tell you that Richard's parents were George and Pattie Davis Noble(s).  George and Pattie married before 1800, probably in Lenoir Co., NC.  Their children were:
Richard H. - married Alice (nee unknown)
Patsy - married unknown Taylor
Osborn
Winnifred - married James J. Rhodes (Baptist preacher)
William A. - married Elizabeth (nee unknown)  *William's son, Isaac, wrote the letter*
Zylphia L. - married Needham West
The family originated in NC (at least as far back as I've been able to get), but the children moved on to TN, AR and MO.  It's very possible some of the children or grandchildren did indeed move into AL.

I used to work with a Richard Nobles long ago at Anniston Army Depot and in fact we lived just across the street from him for awhile when we lived at the Alan Homes near Bynum, AL. Not sure but don't think he was originally from this area. Might be some of your kin having the same name but sure don't have a clue what happened to him. This was in the late 60s.
