Question for .375 Winchester shooters

Does anybody have experience with the Barnes .375 255 grn F/N and AA-1680 powder.  I'm looking for a good charge to start with for working up a load with this bullet.

Just try Conley.They have already loaded ammo for the 375Win.Here are some other hot loads I use in my Ruger #3,Savage M99A,Marlin M375 and Win M94 XTR.Expect a 50fps + loss in Win and Marlin,and be careful with spitzer bullets.Also the Ruger and Savage allow you to go over COL of 2.56,without getting in the rifling.In heavier bullets(spitzers) powder must be reduced to clear COL for Win and Marlin.

Thanks, I'll check out Conley.  I have a Winchester M-94 XTR that I'll be working with this summer and noticed that Barnes doesn't list AA-1680 in their manual.  I was hoping that somebody else had tried that powder with the Barrnes 255 Grn F/P "O."

I have in the past used 31.0grs of AA1680 behind a 250grFNGC for alittle over 2,000fps.Accurate lists a load for 1680 with 28.0grs for 1850fps at 33,600cup and COL of 2.40 with 250gr.Way below 52,000cup and COL 2.56 for 375win.So you have plenty of room to work up.Good Luck!

Once again, thank you much for your help.  I somehow missed that Accurate Arms data in their Loading Guide.  I will give it a try.  Your load breaking the 2,000 fps mark is just what I have been looking for.  I'll see if my gun can work up to that safely.

:twisted: I have a win in 375 and I'm stuck on RE-7 for some reasone. I use 200 for deer and my own 265gr made from a african 285 grain round with the end cut off for the big stuff. Works fine.

Nothing wrong with sticking to what works, that's for sure.  I haven't had a chance to do more than punch some paper with my M-94 XTR but I have the 200's, 220's, and 255's to try; and if things go well with my handloads I will take it out on November 15th.  I'm going to try the Sierra 200 grn F/N's first, but I have heard that some rifles don't like that bullet (undersized) so I'll be trying the 220's also to see which is most accurate.  I've been interested in the Barnes 255's for a Black Bear load and will try them after working up a load for deer with the 200's or 220's.

Newaygo sounds like it should be familiar to me, but for some reason I'm drawing a blank - west side of the state, maybe?

I tried the Sierra 200 fp, but had trouble getting them to seat straight.

The section of the bullet that is the full diameter is very short, and if it is not lined up right it can turn during seating.

I have been told this can be corrected by using a Lyman M die, but I just went back to the Hornady 220, which have looked good on paper for me over 36 grains of 3031.

I am hoping to experiment with some of the bigger (250-255) hard cast bullets if Spring ever gets here.

Newaygo is on the westside about 30+ miles north of Grand Rapids.
I'm open to new loads I bought the complete reloading manual for the caliber and there are plenty of Ideas there. I shoot a cast with RE-7 as well they shot O.K. just need to be a little harder.
Has anyone tryed some roundball.

I thought that Newaygo sounded familiar.  Went through the area some years ago with a buddy from college.  Did some kicking around in the woods near Sparta where his wife was from.

Anyway, I haven't tried any round ball loads, but I'd sure be interested to hear about them as well.
