Marvin Poole Knives

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum but it's about one of my favorite topics so I thought I would jump in :-)   My favorite knife is custom made with a stag handle.  Has anyone heard of or own a Marvin Poole knife?  I have what is called a bird and trout knife but is actually great for anything outdoors.  I take it with me camping.   He has a website up now just in case anyone is curious.  It's http://www.sagecreek1.com

Interesting to see that he uses 440C as his steel and at what is considered a lower Rockwell than usual.  Normal "optimized" Rockwell for 440C being 58, rather than the 55-57 he uses.  My first handmade that I used on deer was 440C and I liked it; it was probably around the same hardness as he uses.  I could completely do a deer with it(gutting, skinning, dis-jointing, butchering) before it needed to be sharpened.  Takes a nice high polish that you can't get with 154CM/ATS-34.  Nice looking blades.

Hello Joel,

Marvin said he liked that rockwell hardness the best because it holds it edge much longer.  I like how good the knife fits into my hand, plus the mirror polish finish on the blade.

I haven't heard of him, but just looking at his site those are some good looking knives, and some real working patterns, not to mention very reasonably priced.
