Scope Rings and Base
« on: February 05, 2003, 08:01:30 AM »
Would like information on rings and bases that have proven to be excellent for Thompson Contender.  Also, is it a different base for the carbine bbl?  Intend to put rings on Bushnell Elite 3200 2 - 6X.  Hope to be able to transfer the scope to my 10" 22LR bbl when shooting IHMSA.

Thanks,  papa4

I think the Weaver or a high quality Weaver Style base with high quality Quick Detach rings might be what you need. I am not sure if the bases are the same on the carbine, but the rings would fit any weaver style base. You mount the correct base to the barrels then swap the scope. The scope stays mounted in one set of rings.

Appreciate the info.  But what about the height.  Will I need Low, Med, or High rings?  Help, anybody!!!

the height of the rings will depend on the scope. if you use a "normal" scope then low rings will work if you have a scope with 50 mm then you may need high rings.

the contender the scope mount screws are the same for all contender barrels unless you have custom barrel or spacing.

If you are getting a heavy kicker then I would get a t'sob scope mount from ssk and 3 or 4 rings

i'm not too picky, i don't guess. only ones i don't like are the tasco rings, weaver type that are made of aluminum. they have the big gaudy screws on the side.
a weaver base with burris signature rings works good. a burris, leupold or redfield base with dual dovetails works good. with the burris dual dovetail
you can still use the signature rings, which eliminate ring lapping. make any sense :?
oh, yeah, medium height usually works well for me.

I agree but the Burris Zee signature rings do not come in low height. At least not in the stainless finish! :(
