Need Advice on Coyote Hunting

Hey fellows. This is going to be my  first serious coyote season. They have just moved into our area in the last few years. I am hunting in ridges and hollows with a some open farm and pasture land and hardwood forest. My question is would I be better to learn to use mouth calls or go electronic? I like the portabiliy of mouth calls. The fields and pastures here in western piedmont North Carolina are small, ten to fifteen acres on the average. What is going to be the most productive way to hunt in country like this? OOBuckshot :?:

Hi Buckshot i would try a electronic call at first then atfer i had killed a few and learn how they re act and come in and stuff then i would go to a hand call but if u r bobcat hunting u mite have to stay in one place for 30 or 40 min. and u can have the elec. caller playing and u can be watching or u can use a hand call and worry about geting busted moving your hand working the hand call i use both and if i had too give one up it would be the hand call my Johnny Stewart 512 have made alot of them meet the end of the road for them coyotes cats and foxes  remeber it is what u like try them both good luck varmit master

Varmint Master is right. Remove the variables, in this case maybe a "not perfect" mouth call, and get a few dogs under your belt. It is a bit more expensive but you'll have a lot more success at first and you'll have a faster learning curve in finding out what it takes to get a dog to come to you.

Thanks for the information guys. I see your point. It is going to be a different kind of hunt here in the eastern hard woods than out in the west. I guess I will have to learn it as I go along. Like I said, they have just started to show up in numbers in the last year or so. Everyone is new to this type of hunting around here. Most of the dog shot are shot while people are out hunting something else. Thanks again :grin:  OOBuckshot
