30-30 t0 3040?

This has probable been hashed over here before but has anyone ever rechabbered the 30-30 to 30-40 krag? The manuals show a 1i 10 twist for the krag. what is the 30-30 twist? Has H&R ever chambered the 30-40?
shot placement is everything.

From a recent poll, most 30-30 Handis and Toppers are 1 in 10" but some were 1 in 12".....

James I think this could be done but remember the rim diameter of the 30-40 is larger than the 30-30 so the ejector would also have to be  reworked.

Have you thought of going the 30-30 Improved route? This would give you 2-3 hundred additional fps with a 130 grain bullet, and 200 fps or so with a 150 grain bullet. This way your performance would improve and your cost could be considerably less. If you don't handload this would obviously not  work for you.

You could also just purchase the .308 barrel and get the performance that way also.

its no problem.i shot 168 gr bthp.shot real good a lot faster than 3030 this was before i got a crony so i dont know how faster......the extractor work is easy since its a rimmed shell, all i have is older <weaker> actions but in a new action a handloader should get close to 06 speeds,i sold mine a long time ago but i think a friend of mine still has his........JB

Thanks for the Info. I have been thinging about this one for a while. Could just get a 308 Handi and call it good. Wouldn't be as much fun though.

A person could get a 308 and have the rim cut for the 307win. Rims help considerably with the extraction or ejection system on the Handi's.
Further, if cast bullets are to be used, the long neck on the 30-30 and
30-40 keep the gaschecks and the grease grooves in the neck where they belong. Oh, the dilemma for all the Handi-holics. :-)
