338/06 and the 180 accubond.

I noticed that nosler is making a 180 accubonds. I am shooting 180 bal tips from my 338/06. They shoot like they were made for it. My questiion is do you guys think the 180 accubond would do the job on elk? I am running the balistic tips at 2950.

That's nice to hear about the 180's, I was trying some 225's in my 338 JDJ and getting good results also. I compared one with the 225 Hornady SST in a penetration test and the AB went about 2" deeper. It resembles a Partition quite a bit but retains the front section once it expands. Nice bullets.

I really like the sst in my win mag and Lapua. Good deer bullet. I am excited to try them out.

I was also thinking that the SST would maybe work a bit better on deer sized game as it opened up a bit wider than the AB. The AB was around .630 while the SST at it's widest was around .745. This is most likely the reason for the deeper penetration of the AB.  Both bullets stayed together nicely and didn't vaporize like the BT's often do, although I havent tested the 338 versions of the BT's yet. They are suppose to be a bit tougher than the smaller calibers.

It would be interesting to retry the test comparing the .338" 225 grain Hornady Interbond with the .338" 225 grain Accubond.  The results would be much different than comparing the Accubond to the SST.

Will be doing that when I get some. Actually I was impressed with the way the SST held together. My test medium has finally thawed out so I can try a few more at long distance too. :-) The first ones were shot at 12 feet @ 2250 fps. Want to try some at 100 yards but am waiting for the field to dry out enough walk on.
