Huntsman & 777
« on: January 29, 2005, 03:22:30 AM »
Since the huntsman is capable of only using 100gr of powder, can it safely shoot 100gr of 777? Thanks for the info!

I have settled on 90gr 777. In trying 100gr 777, I had the same excellent results as with 90 = 3 shot cloverleaf at 50 yds. I went with 90 as my
deer load just because I felt like it! (295 powerbelt).
Now I have a question. Wall mart had Pyrodex powder for 3 bucks the other day. After I found a sealed one (sneaky stock boys) I bought.
I can't believe this will shoot much differently than 777. Not worried
about the very easy Huntsman cleanup. Anybody have experience
in 777 vs Pyrodex powder? I'll find out at one of my brief range sessions.
Anybody else interested... Thanks

According to the HUNTSMAN owner manual:                                         50 Cal.                                                                                             Conical Bullets :                                                                              From 250-390 grs.  using black powder chg. FFG = 90 grs.                     From 400-470 grs.  using black powder chg. FFG = 80 grs.                      Saboted Bullets :                                                                                   200 grs.bullet                 using black powder chg. FFG = 100 grs.                    Saboted 240 grs.bullet                 using black powder chg. FFG = 100 grs.                    Note: These loads are recommended for optimum accuracy.  Exceeding them is not likely to increase performancs and can result in higher pressures and unsafe conditions.  Loads recommended for FFG black powder may also be used for Pyrodex RS on a volume basis.  This rifle is designed to use #209 primers.                                                               [/b]NOTE: HODGDON POWDER CO.  Tripel Seven is a high energy product designed to provide the muzzleloader hunter with higher velocities when used in the same VOLUME as black powder. To duplicate a black powder load velocity using TRIPLE SEVEN you MUST decrease the powder charge by 15%.  So reduce the above loads when you substitute t7 for bp.                                                                                                                                      Hope this helped         Stew
