New Key Locks
« on: March 16, 2005, 06:32:41 PM »
Does anybody here have experience with the new key-lock S&W revolvers?  Do these built-in locks have a detrimental effect on trigger pull or anything else?  Thanks....

I’ve purchased a handful of SW’s with the lock since its inception. I have not noticed any problem with the locks and seldom even think about it being there. These locks in no way inhibit trigger pull when unlocked.

Be Safe,

I have only one S&W with a lock...it is a PC657 Hunter.   I had to have this gun...it was a moment of weakness.  There has not been any trouble with this gun but it has only been fired about 500 times.

There is a rumor that the lock work can engage under heavy recoil.  And then there is the political issue with the locks in the first place.  Politics is the main reason my smith lock guns vs non-lock smith guns are 1:70+ ratio.

Politics aside, It is a much better value to buy a used smith and wesson.  When a new gun is purchased and taken out and shot it drops in value....then after a while (a long while) the gun will begin to increase in value eventually going higher than the original cost.   Perhaps it is best to buy the used guns and you will be on the upward appreciation rise in gun value.  Your used gun will be worth more than you paid for it in short time.
I tell my wife that these antique (catch phrase in my house) guns are worth more than my original investment...makes the additional purchases easier to justify.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, guys, for the info.  The only gun I've ever had with a built-in trigger lock was a 5-shot Taurus, and it caused no problems at all.  None of my S&W's have them.  I didn't think they'd be a problem, but it's good to hear confirmation.
