Range report---used 223 Survivor
« on: January 30, 2005, 11:01:22 AM »
Bought used 223 Saturday...cleaned and relubed...mounted 6-24x-42AO scope.
Went to range, sighted in at 100 using Win 45gr HP.
The Survivor DID NOT LIKE THE win 45hp...2-2.25 groups...I was rather stunned, thus I recleaned the barrel...reshot the Win 45HP; same result 2-2.25 groups!
I then switched to my 223 hanloads of Hornady 55gr Vmax...results were under an inch for 5 rounds...cleaned barrel, fired 5 more under inch.
I fired a total of 25 rounds with the handloaded Hornady 55gr Vmax...all 5 groups were under 1 inch.
I know you guys have good luck with the Win 45HP, but not for me...really wird.
As I mentioned on another post, the rifle barrel was really dirty...spent better than 2 hours cleaning.

My Ultra does'nt like the Win stuff either.I use handload of 26.5 gr. H 335 and a moly 40gr. Vmax with a bipod. Change any one of the above, and it goes to 1.5" at 100 yds.  Digger

Thats what makes these rifles so dang addicting...some owners rifles shoot great right out of the box and factory and others don't and ya start in fiddling with it trying to get it to shoot...9 times out of 10 it will. Mine likes the White box stuff...thank goodness...I haven't really tried too many handloads in it but will when I get the time.....I'm plenty happy with the 45 grainers as you can see....

P.S.  Welcome to the forum Plushhunter and digital.....nice lookin rig plushhunter and hope ya didn't get any oil on that bedspread!
