Because it had a very small split at the end of the barrel when I bought it, I sent the barrel to a gunsmith to have it cut off.

QUESTION!!

I got the barrel back from the gunsmith. It was 28", and is now 27 1/4" with a very nice centered bead. It is gauged to be improved cylinder which is fine for clays & birds.
I have refinished the aluminum reciever , refinished the wood as well. My question is does the 1400 have a bolt buffer between the bolt and the back of the reciever like the Remington 58? There is a machined hole in the very back of the reciever that looks as if it would hold some type of buffer, but it did not come with one. I can see the imprints of the bolt on the very back of the reciever where it has made contact. Am I missing something or should I go ahead and reassemble. Thanks for any help. Will post pics soon.

I don't see one listed on the parts diagram and I've not seen a 1400 with one installed...  Still the bolt shouldn't be imprinting the rear of the receiver either.  I would give BufferTech a call or look in the Brownells catalog for an aftermarket buffer.  Might make the weapon work better longer.  I've included a parts diagramm below.--
