Well, hindsight is 20/20, and it sure is pretty clear to me now that detail stripping my Encore for a thorough cleaning was a bad idea. My problem is that the trigger gurad/spur pin (the one thats threaded on one end,) will no longer screw in. What my friend thinks happened (and he is WAY more mechanically inclined than I) is that I must have broken off a sliver of thread from the hole, and when I went to screw it back in the torn thread kinda rolled itself into the other threads basically creating a sort of seat. He thinks the answer is to just chase the threads with a tap and the problem should be fixed, so Im crossing my fingers :oops: . Has this happened to anyone else?
Also, I noticed something I never had before and want to check with you folks here to make sure I didnt put one of the parts back in wrong. I noticed I can cock and and drop the hammer with the bbl off the gun (and granted without the trigger spur on.) So I dont know If Ive mis-aligned something (though the parts match the proper relation according to the diagram in the owners manual.

I sure do hope this does not turn out to be a costly mistake. Might have to test that T/C customer service after all :oops: :oops: :oops: .

It's only money... a gunsmith can always fix it up.

Contact TC, they will probably put it back together for free. One word of warning, TC will undo any trigger work you may have had done.

My buddy does not have a small enough tap. Ive decided to tuck my tail between my legs and just send it out for a professional to fix (either T/C or a Smith......but I probably go with T/C.) I did not have any trigger work done, so Im not worried. I had just gotten sick and tired of the gun oozing oil from the pin holes. I swear they musta packed enough oil in that thing to float it in water. I replaced it with TW25B paste instead cuz I know that stuff wont run and leech out like the oil. I guess I shoulda just lived with the oil. But thats how ya learn I guess.

So then, whats the best way to ship it out to T/C, Post office or UPS?

Brian,

Just how far is Manchester from Rochester in New Hampshire? If it was me I would just take it over to Thompson Center in person. They may be able to fix it on the spot. Might also find something interesting while there.

I'll drive from Phoenix to Prescott to take a Ruger product there for service, but maybe distances seem further over on the east coast.

It would be about a 45 minute drive for me. So I suppose thats a possibility. I didnt know they allowed walk-ins.

One way to find out, might be a very interesting trip. Maybe they will let you watch and that learning experience would be worth the drive.

Wish they would have a plant in Arizona, would love to drive that close to take something in.

Yes, we tried running the screw in from the other side, but I think the screw threads are warped (even though it dont look like they are.) The screw will only catch part of the thread before hanging up, and forcing things is what got me into my problem so I didnt want to reef on it. Also, Its not a 6 or a 4. Its strange. The 4-48 screwed in but was loose enough to say it was not a 4. So we tried a 6-48 and the tap will thread only up to where the tapered part ends and the actualy cutting threads start. My firend thought it might be wetric, but we cant tell. we DO know it is a 48 cuz he matched the screw on a thread guage. So instead of getting all crazy and trying to find a tap and the possibility of the screw threads also being goofy Ive just decided to suck it up and let T/C fix it right before I REALLY mess things up.
