Ramshot Hunter
« on: February 07, 2005, 05:23:52 AM »
I have been trying to find a powder that could be used in three different cartridges (243/100gr, 280/140gr., and 30-06/165gr.) and I'm interested in Ramshot's Hunter.  It's a spherical powder that supposedly is temperature insensitive and very clean burning.  "Dave in WV" and I used to use H450 in 243 and it worked great, an added bonus was that you could use a powder measure.   I'd appreciate anyone's experience with this powder since it is relatively new and feedback is hard to come by.  It "looks" good on paper and with the burn rate it looks "useable" in the three cartridge/load combos that I mentioned.  I'm not really all that concerned with blistering velocities as all of my  deer have been inside 200 yards(most inside 100).  Thanks in advance.

Chad

The only thing  I have tried Hunter in, so far, is the .280 Remington with 139 and 140 grain bullets.  I wasn't impressed.

Thanks Steve.  Its kind of hard to find any gouge about it as nobody uses Hunter here.  I know a guy that swears by TAC in 308 but that's a horse of different color.  I've had good success with IMR 4350 and 4831 in 280, might just stick with it.  Thanks again.

IMR4350 also works well in 243/100 and 30-06/165, sounds to me like you already have what you need.

Yeah you're probably right Butler Ford.  I was just curious about the Ramshot as it's spherical and supposedly temperature insensative and clean burning.  I dare say that IMR 4350 will get me by quite well(I know it works in 30-06 and 280) and I could most likely get by with IMR 4831 which I also have.
