I've actually gone full circle and am back to using only iron sights for my hunting handguns. I've sold off all the TCs and have only revolvers left for handgun hunting. Well except for .22 semiautos. I started handgun hunting about 40 years ago using only iron sights and after moving thru many phases of it I'm not back to irons only.

On handguns, and lever actions, it's only open sights for me.

Iron sights are what I use as well. I will sometimes use a scope when working up a load… but even then it’s seldom.

Now I list a couple of guns above I use with open sights, but I still like scopes and red-dots on handguns also.  :D

I used open sights up until about a year back. Now my deer handgun has an Ultra on it. Who knows, maybe I'll be back with the open sights? I used a limited amount of scopes, mostly Leopold M8 2 powers in the past. My dad used to tell me "A wise man reserves the right to change his mind but, a fool never will".  Which ever way, if it works I'm for it. My reply doesn't even sound like good advise, to me, so I guess you'll have to shoot the gun you hunt with and choose for yourself. What's right for me, doesn't mean it's right for you? Don't be popular, be successful.

same here I only use open sights I guess its for the same reason i like bow hunting its more of a challange and it makes you have to really hunt not just shoot.

I use open sights on my 357s and 44 magnums.  Sight them in at 50 yds and limit my shots to those distances, unless I have a picture perfect clear shot out farther and within the range limitations of the loads I am using.  Mikey.

I use the open sights some.  My 2 revolvers, open sights.  My Contenders have barrels both ways, which I take hunting depends on my setup and length of expected shot.

I did shoot a deer this year with my open sighted 45-70 pistol barrel.  First one ever without a scope.  Made me feel kind of proud since I have really had to work hard to become a good shot with the open sights.

Not related to handguns but about two years ago I took the scope off my 209X50 and went back to open sights.  Still shoots plenty good and much easier to clean and carry.

Yup;

Open sights for me. Several years ago I had a Contender in 41 mag. Missed two bucks. After that it's been only open sights for me. Shot my first buck with a handgun two years ago. Used a Mod. 657, in 41 mag.
I was thrilled, needless to say.

The only open sighted handguns that I have are CCW's.  As my near vision has left me as I have aged, I have had to resort to scopes for my hunting handguns.  Wish I could still maintain that sharp focus on the front sight that I could a few years ago.
Best,

I have been useing a scope to work up loads for my .44 SBH, that is done so the scope will be coming off.
Also shot my 14" .223 Contender for the first time with no scope,
I can hit a 8" steel plate @ 100yd. every shot and a 12" plate @ 200 yd. almost every shot sitting and shooting off my knees, first time trying this.
can't deside weather or not to put the scope back on.
what do you guy's think.

I really like those open sights. My .45 B/P has a hood on it so this might be cheating a bit   :) . Those Vaquero sights are just fine from yotes to Deer.
Have to admit though that if I ever own a T/C or Encore it will probably be in a varmint caliber and will wear a scope.

Mine are mixed.  Most of my Contender barrels have optics but a couple still are iron.  Of my revolvers, only one has a dot, the other are all iron.  My Ruger MkII .22 has a small dot but every other auto has iron.  Generally any thing that is bottle neck is usually scoped and a long range (for pistol) shooter.  If they are strait wall, iron, with a dot here and there.

Open sights, my favorite for hunting are the Williams Fire Sights.

I use iron sights almost exclusively.  Truth be told, I carry my revolvers (Taurus RBs in .454 and .480) as a back-up to my rifles.  Why?  Well, when deer hunting, sometimes you come across a big hog up close and personal and trying to swing a scoped rifle around (even set at it's lowest magnification) is just crazy.

I do have one RB in .454 that has a Burris scope on it.  I have taken it to the range and shot it a few times, but you just can't carry such a volkswagon around your belt as a back-up.

However, if I ever go JUST hog hunting and hunt from a blind, then I might just hunt exclusively with the scoped .454.
