Broke my FoxPro in on Sat.

Called in my first fox with my new FoxPro on Saturday.  Circled the call to within 10 feet of my cousin and me.  So startled because of the direction he came in from that we never got a shot!  Two dummies, two rifles, no shotgun (or something to that effect).  The fox disappeared into a thicket, so I remotely switched to a fox kit distress to try and sucker him back in.  After about five minutes of this, a big male coyote rushed in.  We stopped him and gave him one .17 m2r and one .17 hmr for his effort.  He wheeled, ran 30 yards and fell dead.  I may be hooked on the FoxPro!  By the way, did this within 50 yards of my hunting trailer.

Sounds like you're off to a great start!

You'll only fall more in love with that Fox-Pro from here on out. You'll "really" appreciate it if you try out a few more callers!

Congratulations on your first Fox Pro Kill. You will have many hours with your foxpro. I have one with the extension ( 50' ) but I still do a lot of hand calls and howler. You are going to have a blast with your rig. Best of luck to ya...........Joe............

oso45-70, just curious which howlers do you use.  I have an older model and would like to get a couple new ones to be able to mimic both male and females.

I bought the Primos Hot Dog. It does all kinds of calls. Male and Female howls, barks, rabbit distress, deer distress, bird distress, and fawn distress. It was $21 at the local Sportsmans Warehouse. It is the loudest howler they make.

irkjr,
I have a cronk a thompson and a lohman but i mostly use the one that i made, Its a cow horn with a open reed. It depends on the country that im working which one i use. Some times i use a fox pro if im in thick timber.
That way i can have free hands to do the shooting. By setting the call out from where i am sitting i can see better to get a good shot off.

I don't want to sound like an ad for Foxpro, but for 20 years I've been a dyed-in-the-wool mouth caller, only occasionally dabling in the e-calllers.  

Last friday me and a friend went out for a day of harassing critters and I took along a Foxpro 48 that I was able to "demo" at no cost.  I used my old standby's all day with nothing to show for it, and when we got to the last spot, one of my all time favorites, I sung the blues for about 15 mintues-nothing.  As a last ditch effort I let the Foxpro blast the "coyote pup in distress" sounds and within 30 seconds was charged by 3 'yotes.  Needless to say, I'm anxious to spend another day calling with the Foxpro, and I might be a little more open minded about my calling techniques from here on out.  I'll post results as they happen.

Thanks for the replies on howlers, guys.  I've been thinking about the Hot Dog, saw it used in a hunting DVD somewhere along the way and it sounded pretty versatile.  The old Knight and Hale I have now is hard for me to use the way I want.  Maybe just me.  I hunt an area that is covered in yotes and I want a variety of calls so I can keep varying my sounds as much as possible.  That to me is the great thing about the FoxPro.  I have yote, fox, coon, bird, rabbit, and deer sounds on it.  Slick outfit, but I still use mouth calls and prefer a howler over the yote locator I currently have on the e-call.  Am going out tomorrow with my kids, may not take a gun I'll just let my 6 yr. old take whatever gets called in with his bare hands!

HI sound like a good hunt i have a New FOX PRO 416 with Remote on order should be here in a week or 2 i cant wait to get it and try it out VM

That's the one I have.  Got it in Dec., finally recovered from deer season and now using it a little.  It is a great piece of equipment.  You should have no trouble shooting out your .25-06 barrel with it!  Good luck!!

Hi yes i have to get my 25 06 sighted in before my caller gets here cant wait to try both out VM :D
