JB bore compound (I've read that there are 2 but I mean JB bore paste) was designed/developed specificly for cleaning rifle bores of copper fouling, by a champion benchrest shooter.  It is a very mild abrasive.  I use it sparingly on badly fouled bores like when I'm in the feild doing a lot of shooting, and need to clean quickly to regain accuracy.  A couple of passes with JB following the directions is all that's needed.   I don't use it all the time.  After I get home I'll clean with a good copper solvent like Butch's or shooter's choice.  It may take several days of nightly cleanings before I stop getting color on my patches, but too much scrubbing with any abrasive will shorten barrel life.  After all if it's good for removing machining burrs, it's probably good for removing the nice sharp edges you have on new rifling, too.

I don't know anything about Flitz, but from what I've read here I think it's a little more aggressive than JB and was not specially made for gun barrels.

JB Non-embedding bore compound is the JB you want to use for polishing/cleaning a bore, it's too mild to do any harm to a bore when used properly. There's a thread at AR on the subject Can JB Cause Overbore?, some shooters have been using it for years with no deterioration of accuracy in fine shooting rifles with expensive custom barrels. Many, many shooters  recommended it and no one provided any indication of an instance of damage to a bore, the thread unanimously approved it's use. I've only used Flitz and Maaz in the chamber on a Handi/Ultra and think it's too fine to do any harm, either. After polishing a bore with JB, I use WipeOut to clean the bore real well, it only takes one overnight or 12hr application to get the bore white patch clean, good stuff!

I bought some of LBTs firelapping compound last year but it became one of those things that I never got around to doing.  I thought about using it to hand lap.  I figure if shooting it down the barrel embedded into a bullet won't hurt anything then surely it on a tight patch wouldn't.  It'll still probably be one of those things I never get around to doing.

Jeff, what does the Flitz do to the blueing of the barrels and the receivers? Won't it wear the blueing off?....<><.... :?

it just makes the blued metal shine.its a metal polish.maybe if you used it over and over it might take the blueing off but i have never had any trouble with it.the Flitz is made for blueing,it says so right on the tube.if you have a little rust on the blueing the flitz will take that off and the blueing looks like new

you should try some on your guns.i ran into a small tube at a gun store and this tube was a free sample.after trying it one time i was sold on the product and went and got a larger one,one i had to pay for

great stuff

Thanks Jeff, since it seems you "know of where you speak" when it comes to guns and Handi's I will happily take your advice and buy some. I have been meaning to do some bores and chambers anyway...Thanks....<><....

Just a note to let ya know that I have been using Flitz on the outside and inside the barrels on my guns and have not had any problems.  I like how after using it on the outside of the barrel and frame it helps keep the finger prints off the steel.  I have alos used it on the wood stocks and it really makes that wood shine also.
Happy shooting, may you hit what you aim at.
