Contender/G2 barrels
« on: February 02, 2003, 07:03:58 PM »
:D  G2???

You mean the imaginary firearm that a once great company I think that was called Thompson Center Arms claimed back in the early 2000 time frame would be produced just any day? Ha. I'm just back from a time travel trip to the year 2020 and here is what the TC catalog says about it.

NEW! G2. We are pleased to announce that the NEW G2 Contender will be making it's debut in time for hunting season this fall. It has been eagerly awaited by the masses who loved the original Contender. The magazine writers who have had a chance to test it (in preproduction mock ups of course) all gave it rave reviews. So look for it at a gun store near you very soon.

The indication I have gotten from what I have read is that the G2 barrels could not be put on the contender frame. The reasoning is that the G2 is being designed for higher pressure rounds than the contender was designed for. I'm not quite sure how they prevent the use of G2 barrels on the old frames, but that is my understanding of the situation.
Just another worthless opinion!!

Greybeard I'm witcha on this one!
And them not saying "it ain't happening" or "here 'tis" is driving the price of used Contender frames up (combined with their current lack of production of anything besides muzzle-loaders). How's a guy supposed to get more than two frames, four barrels, two scopes and enough ammo to play if the prices of the frames keep going up! Dang it anyway!

It says the forarms inter change also except Harrett.  So any ways I called them friday. They tell me that they are making the tooling, and getting ready for production of the G2.  I did not ask when they were going to be coming out.I dont like being lied to.

I just received a new Jerry's Sport Center catalog. They have G2 frames and barrels listed with prices. Since Jerry's now lists G2's and stuff, TC is taking orders from distributors. The G2 will be here soon.

Lots of places been listing G2's for sale since last fall, all say "not is stock at this time". Or that time, or any time. http://www.thegunsource.com/pistols/thomspsoncenter.htm
$281.07 Contender G2 frame only
they also list Encores for $257.18 and Encore G2s for $323.07...uh, what's an Encore G2, Thompson working on something we haven't heard about?

Yep, any day now, G2's for everyone!

So the G2 is going to be $66 MORE than the Encore in Blue/wood, doesn't seem to make sense does it? Maybe they'll delay the G2 until they raise the price of Encores to match.
Oh well, fun to guess.
