.62 Cal Green Mountain barrels.
« on: February 05, 2005, 01:01:17 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the .62 Cal IBS smoothbore bbls from Green Mountain?  Ive really been hankerin for one ever since I read an article in the IBHAs magazine about a guy using one on a Canadian trip to take caribou AND grouse.  I think a double duty 20ga/62 smoothie might be a fun gun.  I was thinking of picking up a complete lock and stock T/C rengade or other 1" channeled gun and droping this bbl in.  Seems like the quickest and cheapest way into a .62.

They're good barrels...I bought a GM .62cal smoothbore Flint barrel drop-in for the TC Renegade/Hawken a year ago, put it on a .54cal TC Hawken stock I had.

It comes with black thimbles so they'll be pretty close to the furniture on a Renegade...but I replaced them with TC brass thimbles to match my brass Hawken furniture...the ramrod was also a black, hollow aluminum rod with chrome tips, and I replaced it with a brass one, same reason.

COOL!  Thats what I was hoping to hear.  There aint many T/Cs on e-bay right now that fit the requirments.  But Im not planning on really getting this going for at least a few months.  Im gonna first check the local gun shop and see what they have floating around.  The other option I thought of is maybe investing a bit more time and money into this project but spreading it out over time.  I would search for an unfinished T/C stock and start there.  I see Track Of The Wolf sells locks that fit the T/C.  Then Ill just take it from there.
But, alas, Im not sure what quite to do.  Buying a complete gun would make things quicker.....but a from scratch gun might be more fun  :-D .
