first post here and would like some info about Kentucky Lake
« on: February 01, 2005, 02:53:05 PM »
hello this is my first post here on the bass fishing forum :D

im coming to Kentucky for the last 2 days in April and the first week in May for a bass tournament on Kentucky Lake and Barkley.there is a two day tournament on Barkley Lk first then we will move to Kentucky Lk next.this is the NBAA out of Michigan,Indana and Ohio.its the top qualifiers from the weekend trail and also the week night trail.im fishing both tournaments.we will have several pre fishing days on both lakes

can anyone tell me alittle about the lakes?will the water level be high then?
good place to get a map of the lakes?
will the spawn be over then?
good locations to prefish?creeks and bays to try?
i have talked to several people already but all the info i can get will help.

i plan on flipping and pitchen the buck brush and willows and the yellow flowers.from what ive been told this place is a pitchers paradice and i love pitchen.we were down on Old Hickery Lk  last spring and i loved that place.that tournament we stayed on the bank, did lots of pitchen there.also fished Bandits shallow.our finish last year was 10th out of 100 boats.i sure would like to win  this year and im going to give it my best.

CAN ANYONE HELP?

thanks,
jeff

I grew up fishing both lakes, and truly miss them. Usually the water levels will have stabilized some by late april, but you can check tva.gov for lake level info .... I believe they have some historical info there, and you can check the last couple of years worth of data for that time frame.

On Barkley, I always had good luck from Blue Springs at the mouth of little river upstream to Meshaun's bridge .... Goat Island sits near the end of Little river there, just across from the state dock at Lake Barkley State Resort Park.  The Linton area has also been good.

On Kentucky Lake, I've always done well in the blood river area, and around Old Kuttawa.  There are actually very few bad spots on either lake. For maps, I'd just buy one of the big waterproof jobs that you can find at most sporting goods stores for $9.95 or so. All of them that I've seen are pretty good.'

Spawn status depends on the stability of the water temperature, but you should hit part of the spawn period .....

Hope this helps.
