sprest22, I have family that lives in Franklin County. They live between Nicholville and Dickinson about one mile east of the St. Lawrence/Franklin County line on RT. 11B. The north half of Franklin County is actually above the Adirondack's, its in the St. Lawrence Valley. They have hundreds and hundreds of black bear up there. At least thats what they always tell me. I've hunted up there for 15 years and have never even seen a bear track let alone a bear. I think you have to get into the heart of the Adirondack's for a better chance to see some bear.
Black bear hunting in New York State is tough. New York has a bear population of about 4000 to 4500 bears. I think we average around 700 to 1000 bear a year that are killed by hunters. Your best bet is to get with someone that has experience hunting them in the state.
My father and I are planing on going on a bear hunt either in New England or Canada!
