7mm-307
« on: February 21, 2005, 04:15:52 PM »
I have finally decided to get an Encore.  I was going to get a 7mm08, but thought a rimmed case would be better in the encore, and necking 307 brass to 7mm should be easy enough.  It seemed simple until I started to look for dies and discovered that I could get  an Ackley improved version.  Does someone know wether there is enough difference between the two to justify gettting some more expensive dies.  I already have the 7-08 dies.

patw,
According to one source, 4-D Products, who rent chamber reamers;
Factory 7-08, 140gn 2860fps
Ackley 7-08, 140gn 3030fps. An increase of 5.9%.
Hope that helps.
A 7-.307 Ackley improved? Sounds like a heck of a cartridge too me:)
good shootin, G.

Although I have pretty much made up my mind on that cartridge, I am still looking at possibilities.  I was looking through Cartridges of the world by Frank Barnes, and the 7-307 Ackley improved was there.  It was developed in 1987 and is called the 7mm Shooting Times Easterner.

What are the opinions as to rimmed versus rimlessin the encore?
