"But your Honor, the price was cheap and it was only a single shot rifle"

FROM AN UPCOMING CRPA NEWSLETTER COLUMN.

GUN SHOW "STINGS" NET MOSTLY "SOFT" TARGETS

Recently federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities
have stepped up efforts to enforce firearms laws, particularly at gun
shows in California and bordering states. The California Department of
Justice Firearms Division, county and local law enforcement officials,
(particularly the LAPD Gun Unit), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives all attend guns shows in California and in
neighboring states too. There are uniformed officers present, as well as
civilian informants and undercover plain clothes law enforcement
officers who conduct "stings," typically by enticing gun buyers or
sellers to forego the legal requirement that gun sales be processed
through a licensed gun dealer. Often, rare guns are offered at "too good
to be true" prices in order to seduce the "stingee."

Police also monitor Shotgun News, Gun List, and other trade
magazines, and even run ads themselves sometimes, to likewise sting
unwitting participants. State police have been known to follow cars with
California plates back across state lines and arrest the occupants for
"importing" "assault weapons" or "high capacity" magazines, etc. from
out of state gun shows. Suspects typically have their businesses and
residences searched, and all of their firearms seized.

Many of these efforts are being funded with DROS fees, or with
federal crime prevention funds earmarked to be used to prosecute violent
felons. While many of the efforts of these agencies are laudable, the
people being arrested and prosecuted are usually not violent felons.
They typically have no prior criminal record and are often solid citizens.

Frequently, the arrests are the unfortunate result of an overly
complex regulatory scheme that leaves many gun owners unaware of their
legal obligations and makes them sitting ducks for police, who sometimes
use the arrests to inflate their statistics and seek additional funding.
As CRPA has previously reported, even Governor Schwarzenegger recently
took note of the overwhelming complexity of California firearms laws and
recommended clearing them up before passing more laws.

Every violation of the law, however inadvertent, that is detected
at a gun show or elsewhere is politicized and ultimately used by the gun
ban lobby to advance its cultural and political war against civilian
firearms ownership in general, and to urge an end to gun shows in
particular.

CRPA has 2005 California gun law summaries available.
Calgunlaws.com also has free information available. Please help get the
word out that gun show attendees need to educate themselves about the
law and to be careful not to violate it. As Benjamin Franklin once
said: "Experience is hard school, but fools will learn in no other."
In other words, learn the law beforehand, rather than learning it as a
result of being prosecuted criminally.

If you are approached about an illegal transaction: Do not equivocate -
refuse to participate!

Typical nonsense that goes on by the Piece-of-CRAP politicians and LEO's in the extreme left-wing People's Republic of Kalifornia.
I have never, nor will I ever abuse myself by visiting a state with such a high concentration of liberal NONSENSE. Makes me want to PEUKE !
As far as I'm concerned, it would be no big loss to the USA if this state was not a part a part of the union !
It would suit me just fine if the USA stopped at the western edge of Nevada !
They can have their Liberal, environmentalist, Greenpeace, beatnik-hippie, overtaxed & over-regulated nonsense all to themselves & it would stop polluting the rational thinking of CORRECT-Minded (Conservative) Humans !
Go MAGNUM/MAX LOAD or GO HOME !
Always use MUCH more gun than the minimum required to do the job.
Recoil is your FRIEND...It lets you know you are using something WORTHWHILE !

Yes, it is a S.A.D. (Stupid Anti-Gun Democrats)  state of affairs California has become.  I used to live out there and escaped not to long after the nut let loose on a Stockton school with several semi-auto weapons that caused the big hoopla on the California Assault Weapons Ban.  Instead of en-acting tougher sentencing laws against criminals, they en-act laws to protect the criminals, and make the law abiding those they want to control or have more control of.  The criminal who caused it all in California had a very long rap sheet for crimes, and because of soft sentencing and early releases he was out and about in the general population just waiting to prey on the weak.

As I said, I and my family escaped the left coast of the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Many of the enslaved don't know any better because they like so many are engrained daily with the anti-gun agenda.... they have fallen slave to the all mighty dollar that is earned on the left coast compared to other parts of the country.

I have myself been offered a great retreat to live there, but I told them that the cost of living there is too high.  They looked at me puzzled, and like I said, they've been engrained with the agenda, and so they don't understand what they've never had.

Truly SAD

I remember years ago, right after Kennedy was killed.  All the hoopala about getting rid of the guns.  At that time there was a Rep. Casey from Texas that tried to get a bill passed in congress that basically stated that anyone convicted of a felony and was using a firearm of any kind in commiting that act would get an automatic 25 year sentence with no provision for parole.  Guess who shot it down in congress, yep the liberals.  Those of you old enough to remember this, I think I got the facts right here, if not speak up.  They always want to punish the innocent ones, not the ones that commit the crime.  These people all go around with their heads up their wazoo.  When you try to explain it to them, that you can never get rid of all the guns, they just say well it will be a step in the right direction.  Sometimes I really worry about where this country is going.  I also remember what an old guy told me years ago.  He was a tank commander in WWII.  He said that when they went into a german village or town, the first thing they had to do was confiscate all the firearms, lean them against a curb and drive a tank over them.  Now this guy was a gun lover just like us.  He said it trully broke his heart to have to destroy all those beautiful doubles and drillings and custom rifles, but he said that that was orders, because they did not know who they could trust.  Seems like that is the way it is now.  The politicians don't trust us so get rid of all their guns.  Make sense?  Does to me.

Just to keep this in line with the GBO forum for H&R rifles, just remember when in Kalifornia that at a gun show, someone shows you a good private deal on a Buffalo Classic or other H&R model single shot rifle.. don't buy into it.

Fill out the proper yellow Fed form 4473 and wait the needed days that Kalifornia requires.

If you take short cuts, you just might be getting it in the shorts

Folks,
from one who lives there and has no chance of leaving, at least for 2-3 years, I tend to agree will what has been said.

Please don't throw us away.  Convince, convert and educate those from here you meet, remember the last election?

The news idiots were calling CA to the dem'sbefore 25% of the votes were in.  Truth is there was less than 1,000,000 votes to seperate the two.  That sounds like a lot to some of you, but it is about 1/8th the number of people in LA county alone, where I live.

If we can hold CA for the conservatives we can make a difference.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!
